P.F. Chang's is a Chinese-inspired American chain restaurant that caters to families. Fried rice, orange chicken, pad Thai, sushi, and other Asian-style meals are popular at the restaurant. It also includes a gluten-free menu, allowing many Americans to enjoy gluten-free Chinese-inspired cuisine.

P.F. Chang's is a good choice if you are looking for a casual dining restaurant that serves healthful food. Despite its menu items being often rich in calories and carbs, the restaurant offers more lean proteins and steamed veggies than other eateries.

The menu is broad, and the dishes are usually excellent and filling. P.F. Chang's also caters to a variety of dietary needs, including gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, and other special diets. It's not very difficult to find something low-carb at P.F. Chang's, but it's important to pay close attention to the nutritional information on the menu.

Unfortunately, several of P.f Chang's most popular dishes are not suitable for people with diabetes. Here are some of the items you can try at P.F. Chang's if you have diabetes and need to keep your blood sugar levels in check.

Soups

Many of the soups at P.F. Chang's are suitable for people who are watching their carbs and sugar intake.

Egg Drop Soup

The egg drop soup cup is comprised entirely of broth and eggs, but the velvety smoothness of the broth will surprise you. It also includes julienned carrots and green onion to increase the dish's nutritional value. A single egg drop soup cup contains 40 calories, 1 gram of fat, 1 gram of protein, and 5 grams of net carbohydrates.

Remember to order the cup instead of the bowl, which has 270 calories, 7 grams of fat, 7 grams of protein, 1 gram of fiber, and 41 grams of net carbohydrates.

Hot & Sour Soup

The hot sour soup cup has chicken eggs, tofu, and bamboo shoots in it. One cup of sour soup contains 70 calories, 2 grams of fat, 4 grams of protein, and 0 grams of carbohydrates.

Wonton Soup

Like the first two soups, the wonton soup comes with a flavourful broth. However, it does contain more protein because it includes shrimp, chicken, or pork wontons. One serving has 110 calories, 3 grams of fat, 10 grams of protein, and 11 grams of net carbohydrates.

Salads

When you are watching your carb intake, salads are your best friend. However, you should make sure you avoid carbohydrate-rich toppings such as tortilla chips and croutons.

P.F Chang's, unfortunately, does not provide many low-carb salad options. This is because they only offer two salad options, one of which (Mandarin Crunch Salad) is loaded with oranges and rice sticks, increasing the carb amount.

Their Asian Caesar Salad is the only keto-friendly salad on the menu. The good news is that you can add a variety of protein options to their Asian Caesar Salad.

This Caesar salad has romaine lettuce and parmesan cheese, just like the other Caesar salads. P.F. Chang's adds wonton croutons and sesame seeds for an Asian flair. One serving has 410 calories, 30 grams of fat, 15 grams of protein, 4 grams of fiber, and 17 grams of net carbohydrates. This may seem like a lot of carbs for a salad, but omitting the wonton croutons reduces the carb content dramatically.

Shrimp with Lobster Sauce

If you're looking for a seafood dish to enjoy at P.F Chang's, this one features shrimp and lobster sauce, so it'll give you the best of both worlds. Asian mushrooms, green onions, eggs, and chopped black beans are also used in the dish. The stir-fried version has 500 calories, 18 grams of fat, 31 grams of protein, 5 grams of fiber, and 17 grams of net carbohydrates.

The good news is that this dish is also available in a steamed version with 370 calories, 18 grams of fat, 31 grams of protein, 3 grams of fiber, and only 14 grams of net carbohydrates.

Northern Style Spare Ribs

If you are looking for something meaty, consider the Northern Style Spare Ribs, which are seasoned with a five-spice dry rub. A plate of Northern-style spare ribs contains 700 calories, 21 grams of fat, 37 grams of protein, 1 gram of fiber, and 10 grams of net carbohydrates.

Keep in mind that the sauce contains the majority of the carbohydrates in this dish, so you can ask the servers to minimize the amount of sauce they use to reduce your carbohydrate intake.

Bottom Line

Diabetes-friendly eateries aren't always easy to find. Fortunately, P.F. Chang's is one of the few places that can offer low-carb versions of some of their dishes. However, you must still choose which elements to eliminate and which to keep. That's why you must do your homework ahead of time and plan out the meal you want to order before going to the restaurant. You must also keep an eye on the nutritional composition of the dishes to ensure that they meet your diet's requirements.
