Sandwich enthusiasts in the United States enjoy a wide variety of options when it comes to sub sandwich selections. Jersey Mike's Sub has more than 2,000 locations and makes submarine sandwiches to order, chopping the meats and cheeses to order as needed.

Mike's Way" is a the most popular way to top off your Jersey Mike’s sandwich with condiments that include sliced onions, tomatoes, shredded lettuce, fresh oregano, salt, spices, and "The Juice," which is a combination of red wine vinegar and olive oil. There is also a cherry pepper relish that is exclusive to the restaurant.

But if you have diabetes, it may be difficult to enjoy a sub sandwich at Jersey Mike’s. That’s mostly because all sub sandwiches are based on bread and most of the fillings are laden with carbs, sugar and fat, which makes them unsuitable for someone who’s watching their carbs intake.

The good news is that there are ways to enjoy a meal at Jersey Mike’s if you happen to be there with your family or friends. Here’s what you can order from the Jersey Mike’s if you’re looking for low-carb options when managing diabetes.

Chicken Philly Steak Sub in a Tub

One of the best ways to avoid loads of carbs at Jersey Mike’s is to order a sub in a tub, which doesn’t come with bread at all. Served on a bed of lettuce, this sandwich is topped with chicken breast, onions, peppers, and melted white American cheese that has been grilled-to-order on the restaurant's flat top grill. You can ask your server to add some of Jersey Mike’s signature olive oil mix, spices and red wine vinegar to give it a little more taste. This meal option has a total 13 grams of carbs.

Famous Roast Beef and Provolone Sub in a Tub

This sandwich is made with freshly sliced roast beef and provolone cheese on a bed of lettuce. You can ask for it to be served "Mike's Way," which means that they top it with sliced tomatoes and onions, olive oil, spices, and vinegar. You can also ask for the mayonnaise and sliced banana peppers to be served on the side. The total amount of carbs for this sub in a tub is 9 grams, and you’re also looking at 690 calories.

Famous Philly Sub in a Tub

The is one of the most popular subs at Jersey Mike’s and the sub in a tub version has 11 grams of carbs. The Famous Philly Sub is served atop a bed of lettuce with steak, onions, peppers, and melted white American cheese, which is grilled to order on their flat top grill in-store and then sliced to order. You can ask your server to add their signature red wine vinegar, olive oil blend, and spices to give it a little more flavor.

BLT Sub in a Tub

This sub in a tub is ideal if you are also following a dairy-free diet or are searching for something that has a high fat-to-carb ratio. This sandwich is made out of bacon, shredded lettuce, and sliced tomatoes, amongst other ingredients.

Cancro Special Sub in a Tub

In case you're wondering, Cancro is the last name of Jersey Mike's CEO, Peter Cancro, who is a member of the Jersey Mike's family. This meat lovers' sub in a tub is a delicious option that only has 9 grams of carbs for the entire thing. It comes with thinly sliced roast beef, pepperoni, and provolone.

Tips for ordering a diabetes-friendly meal at Jersey Mike’s

  • Avoid any type of bread, wraps, flatbread, chips and cookies
  • Always stick with a sub in a tub
  • Leave dressings out as much as possible
  • If you want to drink something else than water, opt for Diet Pepsi or unsweetened iced tea.
  • Some locations also have soups, but they are best to be avoided because they are too high in carbs.

You have a plethora of different choices because every sandwich may be transformed into a "sub in a tub." Keep in mind that any vegetables or sauces you add may raise the carbohydrate content of the dish and will not be included in the breakdowns below.

Do you prefer something a little more substantial? Ask for additional meat! Even while it may cost you a bit extra money, it will be well worth it for a filling low carb meal.

It’s totally possible to enjoy a diabetes-friendly meal at Jersey Mike’s. You’ll need to look carefully at the nutritional information provided on the menu so you can make the right choices.
