If you are contemplating whether you should include tuna into your diabetes-friendly diet, we are going to say it plain and simple: you should definitely do so. In fact, tuna will be a perfect fit for your diet. It is a treasure trove of protein and omega-3 fatty acids, without the burden of carbs and sugar and with a very low content of saturated fats. Because tuna has no carbohydrates, it will not raise your blood sugar levels while high content of protein makes it very filling.

Omega-3 fat helps to improve insulin sensitivity, fasting blood sugar, and HbA1c levels as well. Besides, tuna also contains vitamin A, B6, and B12 and minerals such as magnesium and selenium.

There are many different kinds of tuna, such as Blackfin, Bluefin, Skipjack, Yellowfin, Dogtooth, Bigeye, and Albacor. They vary in flavor and can be cooked in a broad variety of delicious dishes, ranging from sushi and sashimi to salads, soups and steaks. Here are a few of our favorite tuna recipes.

Tomato Soup with Tuna and Beans

If you like tomato-based soups or fish soups, you will most likely enjoy this savory, filling, yet diabetic-friendly dish.

Tuna Steak

This diabetic-friendly recipe is for a delicious tuna steak that turns out to be very tender and juicy. This steak is perfect with salads, vegetables, and any side dishes. Serving it warm or cold makes it equally tasty.

Tuna and White Beans Salad

Because the main ingredients of this salad are canned beans and tuna, it can be prepared very quickly and easily, which is very convenient when you don’t have much and want to make a tasty, diabetic-friendly dish.

Tuna Steak with Brussels Sprouts

This diabetic-friendly dinner entrée is very delicious and flavorful. The fish is marinated because tuna absorbs and retains the aromas of sauces and marinades very well, and Brussels sprouts perfectly complements the fish.

Pita with Tuna and Beans

Healthy, hearty and diabetic-friendly tuna pita makes a perfect meal for lunch!

Romaine Salad with Tuna, Egg, and Avocado

This salad is fresh, delicious, and diabetes-friendly, and takes just a few minutes to prepare.

Tuna Steak in Soy Sauce

The simple marinade made of soy sauce, olive oil, and lemon juice gives this diabetic-friendly fish a wonderful taste and aroma.
